In 1999 I was hired as a Collection Specialist at the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. The four years I worked there were truly a delight, but perhaps the best thing that occurred during that time was the arrival of H. A. and Margret Rey's literary estate.
As a staff member I was privileged to unpack and inventory box after box of Rey manuscripts, illustrations, letters, and photographs. In one box we found a metal canister containing a roll of undeveloped film. Imagine our excitement after the film was developed to realize the pictures were taken in Paris prior to World War II.
Upon earning my Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2006, I returned to my interest in the Reys--their lives and artistic achievements. My research has uncovered many fascinating anecdotes and details about this amazing couple. Whenever I've shared some of these stories with family and friends, I've thought about how wonderful it would be to share them with a larger audience. With this in mind, All Things Rey began. I trust you will be as intrigued with the richness of their lives as I have been for the past 12 years.
